Part 2 – “Success is a journey, not a destination”

This is a quote from Arthur Ashe and the second half of the quote says, “The doing is often more important than the outcome”.

One of the challenges facing many business leaders’ is that of ‘digital transformation’, and it’s often at the top of their goals and objectives. This is a subject that makes me think more about the journey than the destination. I’m not sure that digital transformation is an outcome that can be achieved. Rather, it is perhaps a mindset and change journey that requires a real openness, creative innovation and an acceptance of constant change. What is the topic or issue that you’re facing?

I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t want to say too much about what I think on this subject. That’s because your objective, context and perspective is going to be different to mine or to anything I can try and imagine. Another way to say this is that you have to think about your goals, outcomes and journeys for yourself. Then you will be able to find your own new perspective and insight to help you develop and grow, either personally or as a business, or both.

What I would like to offer is some questions to help you think, reflect and generate your own ideas.

Questions to review your goal/journey thinking…

  1. What do you think about your goal?
  2. What do you think about the journey required to achieve your goal?
  3. Who else is on this journey?
  4. How does their journey affect your journey?
  5. How does your journey affect their journey?
  6. How will you know when you’ve achieved your goal?
  7. What are you learning through achieving goal?
  8. What happens if you don’t achieve your goal?
  9. How will you feel when you do achieve your goal?
